The truth about vitamin D deficiency

 

Contrary to popular belief, vitamin D does not increase your risk of skin cancer. In fact, your body needs this vitamin to maintain strong, healthy bones, to fight infection and promote overall health, according to the Vitamin D Council. Additionally, the days of people working on the land and spending long hours outdoors are gone.

A very rare condition that can develop in children is rickets, when the bones become weak and bend. These causes are a direct result of the lack of vitamin D, which aids the body in obtaining calcium from supplements and food sources.
